Mr Matt Walsh – Head of Primary
Mr Walsh obtained his teaching and leadership qualifications in the UK. He has over 15 years’ teaching experience with several years in school leadership and management. Most of this was in the UK, but he has also taught in Egypt, Switzerland and, more recently, in the ASEAN country, Brunei Darussalam. He believes that good education is about teaching the 'whole child', and that the students should be at the heart of a varied, exciting curriculum.
Mr Walsh lives in Ban Chang with his wife and four children. His interests include playing the guitar and drums, surfing and football.

Mrs Cathie Walsh – Head of Foundation
Mrs Cathie joined GIS in 2016 with her husband and four children. She started her career as a teacher in the UK in 1998 after completing a PGCE. Since this time she has taught Foundation and Years 1 and 2 children internationally and in the UK. She is passionate about learning in the Early Years and about the importance of finding each child’s passion and creating an exciting play-based curriculum for them to thrive and develop 21st century learning skills. In her spare time she enjoys horse riding, sewing and running.
Mr Michael George – Head of Years 3 and 4
Michael George is an enthusiastic teacher who has over ten years of experience.
He has a science degree and as such always endeavors to encourage his students to have an open and inquiring approach to their learning. Michael also loves art and seizes any opportunity to allow his students to express themselves creatively in the classroom.
When he is not at school he is usually fully occupied running around after his triplets, sometimes gardening and occasionally going to the gym.
Ms Lucy Howett – Head of Years 1 and 2
Ms Lucy worked in the university sector in the UK before moving to Thailand. She was the first Head Teacher at the Rayong English Programme School (REPS), before transferring to work at GIS. She holds a BA, BEd and MA and is passionate about working with young children. A mother of three, she spends her spare time training and riding horses and sailing.
Mr Andrew Reade – Head of Years 5 and 6
Mr Andrew joins GIS from Ascension Island, a small and remote volcanic island situated in the South Atlantic Ocean, where he worked for two years before joining GIS. Prior to that he lived a short time in Cyprus but mostly in the United Kingdom, where he taught in a range of schools for 26 years. After the isolation of Ascension, Mr Andrew is excited about his move to Thailand and the more cosmopolitan area of Ban Chang and is looking forward to exploring Thai cuisine, history and culture.
