Mr Garth Swan – ELS Coordinator (Primary)
Mr Swan joined GIS in 2013, having worked as a teacher in Thailand and South Korea since 2002. Prior to that, he obtained a Bachelor of Sports Science and worked in the fitness industry. As well as holding a PGCE and Masters in Linguistics, Mr Swan is also an examiner for Cambridge English language examinations. Mr Swan enjoys being active and helps coach the Primary Swim Team. Away from school, he enjoys swimming and spending time with his family.
Mr Jonathan Berry – ELS Coordinator (Secondary)
Mr Berry is from the north east of England and has been at GIS since 2008. His background is in English as a Second Language with an Hons degree and PGCE in ESL, and he also has CIE examiner status. In 2010 he became the Head of English Language Support where he has endeavored to raise English levels among the student body. Mr Berry is a keen gardener, baker, runner, fish keeper and also enjoys touring around Asia.

Mr Don Whittle – ELS & Secondary SEN Teacher
Mr Whittle joined GIS in 2014 having previously taught in a Thai private school for six years. He has a BA in Sports Studies, a PGCE and a Diploma in Special Educational needs. He is from Northern Ireland, where he taught as both a Physical Education teacher and a Special Needs’ Coordinator for 17 years. Away from school life, Mr Whittle was a keen sportsman and played rugby at both national and international level for Ulster and Ireland. In his free time, he likes to watch sport and travel around Asia.
Mr Paul Normark – ELS Teacher
Mr Normark joined GIS in 2014 as a Year 4 teacher and in 2016 he moved to the Primary ELS department. Holding a Master’s degree in Education, Mr Normark previously worked in Year 1 to Year 6 at a Primary school in Sweden and has also taught at a Teacher’s Programme at university. Mr Normark runs the Primary Swim Team and enjoys swimming himself, as well as doing other exercise.
Ms Arlene Villegas – SEN TA
Ms Villegas joined GIS from Philippines in May 2015, where she had been a college instructor in St Scholaticas’ College, Department of Psychology for a year before coming to Thailand. She is a graduate of AB Psychology with mastered units in General Psychology, Early Childhood Education (Developmental Psychology) and Special Education. She is a qualified teacher / teaching assistant for children with special educational needs (SEN). Working with children is her passion. During school holidays, she leads NGOs outreach programmes teaching Thai children and training local Primary teachers from rural areas (Thai-Myanmar border) in basic English communication and child development.
Khun Orathai – Primary SEN TA
Khun Orathai started working in the education arena after gaining special needs teacher’s aide qualifications in Australia. While living in Australia she worked as a SEN TA at The Son Centre Christian College, Victoria. Upon her return to Thailand she has held various positions in international schools, including school marketing and admissions roles. Khun Orathai’s two children attend GIS, while her husband Robert teaches Mathematics at GIS at both Primary and Secondary level.
Ms Kate McKean – Primary SEN Teacher
Ms Kate is from the UK where she has experience working with children and young people, both in schools and through volunteering and running two Guiding units. She has also worked internationally and her last position involved teaching Mathematics and Science at Secondary level as well as covering lessons in other areas of the school, including Primary. Ms Kate has moved to Thailand with her family, two sons (both of whom attend the school) and her husband Colin who is a Mathematics’ Teacher at the school.
Mr Sean Dowling – ELS Teacher
Mr Dowling joined GIS in 2015, having spent the previous ten years working in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Ireland. Mr Dowling has a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, a Master’s in TESOL and a PGCEi. He has a strong interest in using technology to assist learning and has had several articles published in this area. Away from school, Mr Dowling likes to keep fit, read and attempt to play the guitar. He has two daughters studying at GIS as well.
Khun Pia – ELS TA
Khun Pia joined GIS in May 1999 in Human Resources after receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree (English Major) from Payap University Chiang Mai. After seven years in administration, K.Pia moved into Academic Affairs as a teaching assistant in 2006. She initially worked in Foundation before moving to Primary in 2009. Currently, Khun Pia works in Primary ELS where she enjoys working with children of all levels, ages and nationalities. Away from school, she enjoys cooking and cycling.
