"Upon walking into the foundation area for the first time, I thought, WOW! This is the place for my children to be totally immersed in learning." - R. Longstaffe, GIS Parent.
TA Support
To ensure low staff to student ratios, all GIS Foundation School classroom teachers are supported by one or more full time teaching assistants.
“At GIS your child will be a fulfilled and well-adjusted learner. Your child will be happy, motivated to learn and empowered to achieve their full potential. Children need to be given the opportunity to develop in all areas of the curriculum.” - Ms. Jackie Houghton, Principal
A Dedicated Approach
Our fabulous new purpose-built Foundation section houses
- Nursery for 2 to 3 year olds
- Foundation Stage 1 for 3 to 4 year olds
- Foundation Stage 2 for 4 to 5 year olds
with facilities specially tailored to meet the needs of our youngest children in a safe, secure and happy environment.
At GIS we recognise how important it is for children to get a positive start to their education and the long-term benefits this gives them throughout their school life and the key role that parents play in their child's development.
With a focus on the whole child, we look to develop the three prime areas of learning: personal, social and emotional development; communication and language; and physical development. Along with four specific areas of learning: literacy; mathematics; expressive arts and design; and understanding the world.
Our dedicated teachers, under the leadership of Mr. Nathan White, work to give your child the best start possible to their education.
Progressive Learning
The Nursery classes are where children begin their adventure into learning. Children have a natural drive to learn and explore and our qualified and dedicated teachers create a safe and stimulating learning environment. Children take part in a broad range of play and inquiry-based learning experiences.
The GIS Foundation Stage 1 programme encourages children to be part of a community where they think, question, wonder and learn how to learn. Our qualified teachers enable the children to take part in activities that develop language, literacy, mathematics and communication skills in a supportive environment.
In Foundation Stage 2 we give children opportunities to express themselves and to discover more. Our fully-qualified teachers use the children's own desires to grow and learn to develop their reading, writing skills, using the Letters and Sounds phonics programme and their mathematical skills using the White Rose curriculum.
Our units of study help children develop these skills while exploring the world around them in a stimulating and experience-based environment.
